Situation

The building under study is located in Temara, Morocco, small city along Atlantic Ocean, getting a Mediterranean climate. It is an administrative building already equipped with a traditional air conditioning system, and also enjoying natural air conditioning thank to the building design (windows and raw materials).

However natural building ventilation is not enough to ensure employees wellbeing. Thus this project will give the opportunity to analyze and determine the building needs.

Project description

Thermal building study in order to:

  • Reduce heating and cooling needs
  • Improve employees wellbeing inside the building
  • Energy savings
  • Estimate remedial budget and return on investment

Methodology 

Full building analysis:

  • Raw materials
  • Existing air conditioning system
  • Lighting
  • Office equipment: printers, computers
  • Electrical consumption

And also outside components:

  • Climatic conditions
  • Building orientation
  • Air flows
  • Occupation and employees’ movements

In order to reach a valid scenario.

Prospective

A lack of comfort is identified due to a variation between 2 from 4 C degrees compared to the temperature wanted all along the year. Several solutions are considered:

  • New cooling systeme
  • Roof insulation
  • Outside insulation
  • Double glazing
  • Lighting

All those sustainable solutions can be match with each other’s, to improve air conditioning system during summer and winter and thus reach energy savings targets thanks to renewable energies.
